Oral colonization of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in home health care participants and their association with oral and systemic status

Antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (ARBs) are a global threat, especially in elderly individuals in long-term care facilities. A study found that 31 participants (31.7%) had Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and 18 (17.8%) had GNARB. The study highlights the importance of infection control in HHCs and the potential risk of oral ARB carriage. The findings highlight the need for further research to understand the prevalence of ARBs in elderly individuals.
